Teaching Digital Art in Art Teacher Education: Issues and Challenges for Teaching Art in the Digitalworld from a Taiwan Perspective

Digital technology has affected art instruction atall levels of education. The most critical issue thathas been reported recently by many researchers isthat an overemphasis on technical training andinsufficient understanding of pedagogy in computerart education challenges pre-service art teachereducation in Taiwan. Little research has addresseddigital art curriculum, teaching pedagogy, andinstruction in regard to pre-service art teachers. This book attempts to fill the research gap. Amultiple case study was conducted. NVivo qualitativeanalysis software program was used to systematizedata management. A node structure was also developedto analyze complex data. Cross case analysis wasundertaken to identify the common and emergentthemes. Results of this research shed light on howteacher educators could instruct computer art classeswith less emphasis on technical training as well asgive curricula planners in higher education someinsights into how they could better preparepre-service art teachers to effectively integratedigital technology into their art curriculum.
