Reset: Moving Korean Culture Forward is a thought-provoking look at evolving values in South Korea-how they affect the nation's global success and the role they play in an individual's life and sense of happiness.

Sun Segura, a businesswoman born in Seoul, emigrated to the U. S. as a young adult. Visiting her homeland decades later, she was impressed to find a country very different from the one she left. Curious about the effect Korea's economic miracle had on everyday life, Segura wondered if the social ideas and practices she had come to appreciate in the United States could benefit South Korea. She spent several years researching some universal topics in contemporary South Korean culture. Through interviews with a diverse group of people-experts in business, innovation, and psychology; teachers; parents; artists and business owners-she explored the current state of race relations, gender disparity, communication, family dynamics, education, innovation and design.

Her findings span Korean culture and speak to us all regarding our own cultural values. In her in-depth interviews, personal experiences, and the multi-cultural lens through which she views her country, she offers a nuanced and pragmatic perspective of universal challenges and opportunities.

In Segura's view, South Korea should not only be a powerhouse in innovation and technology, but a leader in human rights and social progress, and a top tourist destination on a par with other small countries with big reputations. Koreans have proved they can change quickly when they are motivated. Individuals may not think that their actions affect the culture or the country, but change happens one person at a time. She reminds us that only a few decades ago, it was unimaginable that South Korea would dominate the global electronics and automotive industries and be on course to dominate other business niches. This book is an honest critique, written with enormous love and respect, aimed at motivating the rising generation to help Koreans reach thier full potential in an age-old culture with a limitless future.
