As the family follows the chains of clues, Angel's odd influence over Vera grows. The gender imbalance inside the Sagan clan is discussed in the evenings over beer and burgers as well. Being polyamorous Vampires is always difficult, given the gender imbalance of Vampire turns but no easy solutions present themselves. Clues come together, and the group ends up in the deep woods of Northern Louisiana, looking for a symbol. When they find it, they find something unexpected. Something that will turn upside down not only Angel's life, clan Sagan's life, but the Vampire world in general. A secret within a secret that offers new possibilities, but also leads Jessica to make the worst decision of her century-plus long life.
