On June 25, 1961, the **Bill Evans Trio** consisted of **Evans**, **Scott LaFaro** on bass, and **Paul Motian** on drums, recorded their peformance at the celebrated Village Vanguard jazz club in New York. This formation is considered the best of the pianist's trios, and one of the best trios in jazz history.

* Waltz for Debby*, which was given a four-star rating in *Down Beat*, with *Leonard Feather* stating that, "The tender, gentle side of **Evans**, representing what is probably the most essential aspect of his fresh and endearing style, is predominantly represented here. His solos are among the LPs most impressive moments. " The album also received the crown, that is, the maximum rating in *Penguin Guide to Jazz*.
