Upset with the news Mama and Papa told them one evening at supper, Jenny and Stella Rose couldn't believe they weren't going to have a Christmas this year. The year 1935, the great depression gripped Chicago and the entire nation. Many families were having a difficult time making ends meet. Christmas was easily an expense they could ignore. Or could they? Together somehow Jenny and Stella Rose maintained a happy outlook. In spite of the dire circumstances, they were able to keep the spirit of Christmas and Santa Claus alive in their hearts and mind.
