With help from an enigmatic Creole, a bluff Scots police inspector from the NYPD, and a Vermont farm girl on the cusp of womanhood, Wyatt embarks on an odyssey that takes him from the immigrant slum-dwellers of the lower East Side to the aristocrats of Fifth Avenue, from the granite sheds and anarchist lairs of Barre, Vermont to the island playgrounds of the rich on Lake Champlain, into confrontations with human love and revolutionary passion in all their most fearsome guises.
