A Rendezvous in Summer: the Day the Angels Met

The title A Rendezvous in Summer comes from two inspirations: the many rendezvous with the many wonderful people (angels) who inspired, and helped me with this musical during the many summers we spent working toward its completion. The second inspiration has been the love and attention my wife Gina Maria and our kids gave (thanks Bran) when we decided to take on this mission; it was a rendezvous with love for us all in the summer of 1995. A Rendezvous in Summer is a scripture-based musical parable about the struggle between good and evil. The musical begins with creation of the world and moves through the fall of Lucifer, the fall of man, Christ's death and resurrection, and ends in a modern day neighborhood where the forces of good and evil are at war over the souls of a group of underprivileged teenagers. Four fallen angels travel through time to wage war against one of the chosen ones, a local Pastor who has yet to realize his spiritual potential. Raphael (Representing God, the healer) and a group of angels were sent to protect the pastor; lives start to change as the angels begin to manifest themselves as humans throughout the neighborhood. A few Biblical principles are written into the script, but at no time is the author trying to change The Word of God: but have used artistic freedom to hopefully stimulate young hearts and minds to move closer to God's Word. Prayerfully, this story will lead some lost soul to the knowledge of the truth of the love of Jesus Christ. We hope A Rendezvous in Summer will help move us closer to understand what Christ meant when He commanded us to love our enemies. When we learn to forgive those who are not our friends, we begin to scratch the surface of what it really means to love our neighbor. When we learn to love and forgive like Christ, we open up a new level of love and forgiveness for ourselves.
