I began writing this book before Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama decided to run for the office of the President. Since Senators Clinton and Obama have embarked on their journey to the White House, this country has seen an increased interest in the electoral process, especially by our youth and first time voters, which is what "VOTE, Why?" is also intended to do. There is a connection between non-voting and how non-voting affects our country. I wrote "VOTE, Why?" in the hopes that this current trend, to participate in the electoral process, will not only sustain itself, but will also grow.
"VOTE, Why?" is intended to help you to understand why you should vote, and vote regularly, in all elections, not just the big one. The message in this book is that one man or woman can make a difference when you vote with conviction and with knowledge about the candidates. "VOTE, Why?" does show you why and how you can effect change in America. When we understand how our vote works, we can collectively make changes for the better. In this book you will also find a connection between your local, state and national elections.
The idea came to me to write this book to motivate the apathetic many to go to the polls, rain or shine, during downpours or snowstorms, to vote. The emergence of the possibility of electing the first Black or the first woman president has brought out a lot of our youth, and other people that have felt in the past that their vote either did not count or did not matter. My intent is to reach those of you who are holding back from voting because you believe that your one vote does not really count. "VOTE, Why?" attacks this position and can show you how your vote can affect change. In addition, VOTE, Why?" also helps your understanding of why it matters to continue to vote in local elections even after the general election has been decided.
