Michelle Fuller is a happily married college professor, living in the middle class suburb of Cedar Hill, Texas. With a promising career, a handsome husband, and a precocious four-year old daughter at her heels, life seems to have finally come full circle. Rarely does she find the need to explain the obvious anymore - that she is bi-racial - born out of wedlock and adopted at birth. But things change when a misplaced envelope is found in a box of discarded Christmas ornaments during the holidays. Inside the envelope is a letter and a photo of a Caucasian woman named Catherine Leigh Haslem. The woman claims to be Michelle's birth mother. Feelings that have been suppressed all of these years, now rush to the surface again. This time, the feelings do not go away. Now, with an invigorated effort to find this mysterious woman, Michelle's arduous journey leads her to the notorious segregated town of Lynnville, Mississippi. A town that holds many dark secrets. In efforts to understand her present, she must indelibly face an unresolved past. A past descending into the unknown, filled with sorrow, brutality, and unexpected tragedy.
