Publisher Marketing: Doctor Baya's wife, Charity has tested positive for HIV. The family is in danger of breaking because the source of the infection is not clear. Charity's mind is fixed that her husband is the one who has infected her. This comes out early on the day she is discharged from hospital after an attack of shingles. Baya cannot understand how this is possible for he has been faithful to her from the day they married. Then his past escapades, before he got married, come flooding his mind and these thoughts are haunting him day and night. In a drastic move he has become suicidal and engages in what is taboo in his society - prepares for his own funeral; his wife's and that of one of his children that he believes to be infected as well. His unusual behaviour has attracted the attention of a recently set police unit, CID-OBS, that is mandated to deal with people engaged in occult practices. He has finally come to terms with his situation and has decided to live his remaining days to the fullest and for as long as possible. This leads him to try everything that can reportedly prolong life until death arrives or a cure is found. When a doctor in Kivaled, a country up in political flames, claims to have found a cure for HIV/AIDS Baya is off to find him without a second thought. The following adventure proves more dangerous in the immediate future than what he is trying to fight... The hospital where Baya works is planning a group insurance policy for its staff. One of the requirements is that all beneficiaries must have their HIV status established. All along Baya has avoided this step but now he has no choice. Prompted and encouraged by his wife, he goes for the test... It is in the early 1990s and HIV/AIDS is poorly understood and feared in Kenya. Treatment is costly and beyond even what a senior gynaecology consultant, like Doctor Baya, can afford. Being diagnosed with HIV is as good as being asked to prepare for one's grave because death is definite in a short while to come. This is the story of a family in turmoil but they are determined to survive. Murigi Wainaina is also the author of 'The Virgin of Kivaled - Nana's transformation' and 'On a Spider's Web - Run Keikei run'. Both books are available at Amazon.com
