Kim has grown up on the banks of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. Her Chinese ancestry dates back four generations to the first Chinese prospectors who sought a livelihood in the dusty goldfields. In the midst of a mining boom, and with a son to support, Kim engages an Afghan refugee, Ara, to work with her to rebuild her father's urban farm. Will Kim's family survive the backlash of a community? Like the Swan River, the story flows through memory, loss and a family struggling against the tide.
