"Walking the Roosters is one of Austin's oldest comics. Historically, stylistically, and referentially it's all over the map, but every panel embodies a perspective that is really the essence of what makes this comic so completely, and delightfully, unique. This perspective is limned in a stripped-down style: no frills, no color, no larger narrative or consistent reality. When Austin delivers a joke it's quick and frank, but this straightforwardness in ingeniously disingenuous. His style somehow allows for one-liner jokes that are loaded with subtlety. It allows him to create a moment with a sliding grip on reality, where he balances a nuanced realism with a deft, unfiltered absurdism.
