When I first started dabbling in day trading sometime in 2007, I remember putting $500 into a live trading account and placing a random trade based on a 'feel'. Over the next few days the price went up and I made $4,000. "This is easy" I thought to myself. But over the following days, I watched the $4,000 slowly bleed down to $0. In the coming months, I tried placing more trades on a whim by watching Bloomberg TV. I had no concept of a stop loss or any sort of risk management. "This is impossible" was my next thought. I didn't have a clue what I was doing. Luckily I'm one of those people who never backs away from a challenge. I am also a highly analytical person who sees the challenges presented to me as an opportunity for growth. Over the next 6 years, I clocked many thousands of hours in front of the charts and my journals, learning professional analysis concepts of price and volume. After even more thousands of hours of practice, I was finally good enough to get a job as a proprietary trader. Since then I carved out a successful career in prop trading. These days I am in charge of my own companies - I am the one providing others with trading capital and/or education. Most people start off the same way I did - by placing random trades.
