To write a version of the Maltese Falcon, one of my favorite movies, using our dogs and cats might seem desperate but it gave me a chance, not only to go over the script, the radio version of it anyway, but dig behind the plot. I came away with a new appreciation of Peter Lorre, and of the ending. Despite everything it is about death, the death of a partner, but also what death means to the narrator.
