In the 1830's the life of a white man on the eastern slopes of the great Rocky Mountains could be very uncertain at best. There were a myriad of ways in which a man could die, and John Welch was a mere novice in the ways of wilder-ness life. At his father's behest, he was in search of something here in this strange and foreboding place-purportedly, he was in search of a fortune which his father had discovered many years previous. Oddly enough, John Welch was not quite sure what he was in search of, but in compliance to his father's dying wishes, he had left the safety and security of his Baltimore home and was blindly following his father's written instructions to... who knows where. What he eventually dis-covers in this vast wilderness is something far more valuable than silver or gold.
