They portray his experiences singing love songs in the early days of television; growing up with a brother with Down syndrome; going to medical school in Virginia and being a physician in Oregon; traveling, adventuring, and encountering near-death experiences. After he finds the love of his life-a woman who shares his Buddhist beliefs and predilection for competitive sports-he loses her to a fatal biking accident, and recounts his long recovery from her death.
