Leading makes lonely. The higher you get, the smaller the number of people you can talk to openly. The colleagues wait only for weaknesses and squint in their agenda. Most advisors want to sell in the end always only overpriced highly motivated but inexperienced youngsters. Employees expect leadership with clear guidelines and answers to all kinds of questions. But where do they come from when you're on your own?Don't panic! This book does not answer all the questions. There is however some food for thought from a combination of scientific insights and practical experience of many years. It is not meant to be read from front to back in one go and then shelf it with the other books. Each question "What about you?" gives an impulse and is a chance for self-reflection and personal development. In this respect, this book is not a complete travel plan. How could it be, because every developmen-tal journey depends on the personality and the chosen path. However, it some useful hints at a few distinctive waypoints, so that there is not too much despair. If you decide to follow the respective trace, it is advisable to dig deeper from there. In 20 years of leadership responsibility, I have already experienced and learned a lot and can draw on a long travel experience. While my book "Nothing is Everything" has chronologically described my own inner and outer path, the short chapters of this book each illuminate a distinctive aspect from the professional environment. In keeping with Friedhelm Boschert's book "Learning to lead yourself and then the others", this book is of course not only suitable for leaders and those who want to become leaders. After all, it deals with many interpersonal mechanics. My best teachers were my two daughters. I sometimes refer to Agile models in the book. This form of software development is becoming more and more popular. The associated change in leadership is, however, relevant far beyond the devel-opment of IT systems. After all, it's about efficient strategies to tackle the increased complexity and speed of today's world.
