Temporary Mom Bess Lewis

I still can describe to you my fairytale emotions that I had about fostering and adoption. We were going to rescue abused children, provide them a home, love on them, adopt them and then go on with our normal American lives! I could quote all the Bible verses on delivering the fatherless, recite happy adoption stories, and believed our own story of adoption would be just around the corner. But, two and half years later in our fostering journey, we would continue to struggle to obtain the foster children's permanent placement which seemed like an unending battle. "The goal remains the same," the judge would pronounce, "return home." This 'home' was a place that our foster children no longer knew or recognized even if it was with their birth dad. How could God allow this? How could God remove the foster children from our secure and loving home and place them in the midst of insecurities and chaos? How could God allow bad things to happen to us when we were doing exactly what He told us to do? This is a story about the ins and outs of fostering and how God uses every event for his glory - in his way. For he is constantly using our temporary moments for his eternal story. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV) So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
