Make-believe, magic, spells, and enchantments abound around every corner of this charming witch story. Tilly Tuttle and Vera Vine are two sweet and harmless young witches who embark on a search to find Tilly a new old mansion in which to live because a human family with young children and their dog have moved into Tilly's old vacant mansion on Gold Street in Chicago. This creates a sad dilemma for Tilly because she refuses to live with humans as an invisible ghost or witch. Therefore, Tilly must vacate her much loved old mansion quickly, which was home to her for the past four years. While Tilly searches for a new old mansion to call home, she decides to stay with her Cousin Vera who lives in the Northern Woods in Maine. Tilly and Vera, their cats, Pooky and Mignon, all have the power to slip in and out of mortal form at will, but prefer to live in the earthly form in order to enjoy the keen sensations of touch and taste and to feel the emotions of love, joy, contentment and, yes, even sadness. The search for a new home for Tilly takes them on strange and unexpected adventures with a group of young boys from a Boys Camp located several miles from Vera's thatched roof cottage hidden in the dense forest of Maine. Vera's cottage stays protected under an enchantment spell making it invisible to the mortal eye. But somehow Vera loses her witch powers causing her home to become visible to some very mischievous young boys from camp. Strange things happen to Tilly and Vera when they wind up in a cemetery in hopes of finding Vera's lost magic ring. A frightening encounter takes place with the mean Bodeen family of ghost witches who haunt the cemetery. Tilly learns some very good lessons as to why it is best not to try and teach young boy's life lessons that they need to learn for themselves.
