The Pulpit and the Punch Line
Jim East
Many sermons contain humour, whether to relax the congregation and forge a connection with them, or to engage and challenge them in the midst of their laughter. But why is this so effective? And is it a good idea? Is it biblical? In 'The Pulpit and the Punch Line', Jim East explores the propriety and potential of using humour and comedy in the context of preaching. By examining different comedic styles, and reflecting on their biblical and relational value, 'The Pulpit and the Punch Line' shows the diverse and fruitful impact that humour can have and challenges us to ask the question: what, then, can the preacher learn from the comedian?
