This is a story set in Cornwall in the 1950s regarding five society ladies and their search for exciting fulfillment. These ladies had returned to Britain at the demise of the British Empire to settle in Bravemouth, a quiet fictitious seaside town in Cornwall. One of these ladies was Mrs April Ferrimins, the wife of millionaire, Michael Ferrimins. April had everything, looks, money; you name it. Whenever she entered a room men's eyes would follow her with involuntary testosterone-driven lust. . In desperation she began to pray asking God to return her one and only true love, Ernst Metzla. He was a German Luftwaffe pilot who she called her Eagle. Unfortunately, Ernst had been killed during the war. So despite praying several times a day and hoping God would look favourable on her prayers, she didn't expect them to be answered. April's prayers were eventually answered but not in the way she wanted. In place of Ernst, God sent her an exact copy of her old lover.
