Skilful Exposition: Giving Exemplary Explanations The purpose of this text is to provide immediate, accessible, practical strategies for teachers to improve the quality of their explanations to students. Strategies which can be adopted by a teacher on a Tuesday when realising that their students just did not quite understand on Monday. Skilful exposition is not simply the narration of information but carefully constructed explanation which tethers new information to prior learning, considers knowledge of cognition and is explicit, with the sincerest clarity in its communication.
