Daniel Wyndham, misguided American tourist, has seen the Royal Munster Fusiliers - the Dirty Shirts - go down into the mud of the Western Front.




Now, in the fields of County Cork, he watches a new army being improvised: an Irish army.




Wyndham's romantic dreams still have breath left in them, and to him it seems that the heroes of legend will march once more.




But fighting for Ireland is taking on a new meaning, and 1916 will prove a bad year to be an Irishman in the King's uniform.







John Ware used to work in the construction industry until they made him stop. He now lectures in history in his home town of Cork. He is the author of Dirty Shirt (2020).
