Jesus gets a Six-gun M Frederic Jennings

A civil war survivor from the south, Eli Barlow, becomes a bounty hunter, a fairly common occurrence in those days, and rides then too, as also commonly occurred, into the wild west where all the bounties are. Not long after, common stops happening to Eli as he gets ambushed by one such bounty and bullet in leg, he floats down river and rapid to get away. He not only survives the rough water trip, but then also is deposited in a small mountain lake near Green River, Wyoming. There a newly arrived church of snake handlers is holding baptisms, however, and one of the serpents infused with the Holy Spirit not only bites Eli's bullet wound, but sucks the slug out, at the same time infusing the bounty hunter with said spirit. From there on the very strange adventures begin when with the help of a new friend killed on their first assignment together who then returns as a spirit guide, even inter-dimensional strangeness starts to happen as well and the fun really begins. Judge Roy Bean then pays a visit as the bounty hunter is put on trial, not only for the friend's murder but for two other connected murders that occurred at the same time. But as the trouble came while working for the Lord, the bounty hunter gets Judge Bean to find the real truth, or sort of, in a roundabout, rowdy and inebriated way. Even a seance is needed, or at least takes place, in the courtroom/saloon the Judge will only preside in and literally all Hell breaks loose. In the aftermath a crime occurs and a new bounty is assigned to Eli. The powers of Evil, taking notice of the Lord's new regulator, come gunning with a man, or make that a demon-possessed man of their own. He takes out Mary the saloon girl with a potentially deadly shot, Mary, Eli's almost betrothed. Of course then the demon-possessed man rides and the bounty hunter does the same. Can Eli bring in at least one more bounty? One that even takes him deep into the dark territories of hell itself. And will the Lord in turn for his valiant service save miss Mary?
