Krishna appeared in this world with the publication of Mahabharata. Until Mahabharata there was no Krishna. Mahabharata presented Krishna as an incarnation of god Vishnu. Until Mahabharata, Vishnu was one of thirty three gods. Mahabharata declared Vishnu to be Supreme God and Krishna to be an avatar of Vishnu. An avatar is not the same as original.
