Successful Teaching Strategies of American College Trombone Professors
Matthew Buckmaster
There exist many books of successful trombone teachers explaining the intricacies of their craft. However, there are few studies about what the teaching strategies of these expert teachers have in common. This research was conducted to fill that gap. Three successful American college trombone professors were administered an extensive interview regarding the basics of teaching undergraduate students. This data was analyzed for commonalities in teaching approach, and the findings revealed not only some of these expected similarities, but also some startling and valuable differences in teaching approach. This research will be especially informative as a guide for those who teach the trombone. The interviews are also included in their entirety for reference.
