Hydro-mechanical Coupling of Shear-induced Rock Fracture: Punch Through Shear Experiment and Bonded Particle Modeling
Jeoungseok Yoon
Widespread influence of fluids on rock strength and deformation characteristics from grain-scale to lithospheric-scale has led to a necessity of understanding the hydro-mechanical coupling in strength, deformation, and fracturing behaviors of rock materials. This book provides experimental and numerical approaches for investigating the effects of hydro-mechanical coupling on shear-induced rock fractures using Punch Through Shear experiments and 2D hydro-mechanical coupled bonded particle model simulations. Especially, this book presents how the conventional 2D bonded particle modeling was modified to handle the hydro-mechanical coupling processes in rock and also deals with a new method for microparameter determination for bonded particle model generation. Therefore, this book should be helpful to anyone who may be considering using the bonded particle model in simulations of rock fracturing in geotechncal problems.
