The contents of this book examine how schoolexperiences, individual characteristics and theenvironment contribute to the post-secondary schooloutcomes of adults with learning disabilities. The purpose of this research was to investigate theexperiences of individuals who have learningdisabilities and who received accommodations while inschool. Emphasis was placed on the participantsschool experiences, individual characteristics, andenvironmental conditions. This qualitative researchexamined the experiences of four individuals throughthe method of in-depth interviewing and created fourcase studies. The findings from this study showed theimportance of early identification and remediation. Progress was made during elementary school but thelack of services offered in secondary school producednegative experiences for the participants. However, these individuals experienced success at universityas they felt a sense of control over what and howthey learned. As well, the parental support availableto them enhanced their school experiences andfacilitated successful outcomes.
