Quantum Transport in Low Dimensional Electronic Systems

This work pertains to the spin and charge transportsin low dimensional electronic systems. The generalconcept of low dimensional physics is brieflyintroduced. We studied the spin transport of a spinpolarized Luttinger liquid in the presence of asingle impurity. We found that, by considering theextended Hubbard interaction, a spin-polarized wireis obtained in response to an external magneticfield. In addition, we studied the charge transportof a confined two-dimensional electron gas in thepresence of an insulating region. We considered thetwo-dimensional electron gas as being confined by aharmonic potential. The insulating region, whichcauses the electronic wave function to vanish, isreplaced by a static vortex. We found that arectified voltage is induced in response to a microwave.
