Carbon nanotubes are tiny hollow cylinders, made froma single graphene sheet, that possess many amazingproperties. Another reason why nanotubes havegenerated intense research activities from scientistsof various disciplines is that they represent a newclass of materials for the study of one-dimensionalphysics. In this book we investigate the electricaltransport of semiconducting single-walled carbonnanotubes and their potential applications asbiological sensors. In the first part of the book, electron-phononscatterings are studied both experimentally andtheoretically, clarifying the nature of electricaltransport in nanotubes and setting a performancelimit of nanotube devices in diffusive regime. In thesecond part of this book, we discuss the advantagesof nanotubes as a key element in future biosensors. We will show how we can integrate nanotubes withsupported lipid bilayers, mimic structures of cellmembranes, and use this platform as a way tointroduce biomolecules into the vicinity of nanotubesfor sensing purpose. Throughout the book, necessarybackground information and introductions are provided.
