This book is about the experimental introduction ofbioenergy technologies in society. It investigateswhy some countries are more successful than others. The book draws on Strategic Niche Management (SNM) toinvestigate the differences between the Netherlandsand Denmark. SNM is a research and policy strategybased on evolutionary theories of technologicalchange and technology assessment approaches. It dealswith experimentation in niches as a mechanism intransitions to sustainability. This research makestwo contributions to SNM. First, it shows how(protected) technological niches transform intomarket niches. Second, it enhances SNM by integratingthe dynamics of incumbent regimes in explaining thesuccess of sustainable innovations. Strategic NicheManagement for Biomass combines empirical researchwith recent insights from innovation studies. It isrelevant for those involved in the promotion ofsustainable innovations through experimentation aswell as scholars interested in bioenergy technologiesand renewable energy in general. This may include abroad audience such as policy makers, scientists, corporate managers, and environmentalists.
