Hyperbranched Polymers: Condensation Polymerization and Characterization
Saima Shabbir
Provoked by nature?s ingenuity to fabricate astonishingly precise objects from relatively simple molecules, chemists have preferred to manufacture structures that have immense prospective utility. One of the main objectives for the creation of hyperbranched materials is the design and synthesis of innovative polymers with exceptional composition and properties. Although the applications of macromolecules are widespread in the modern world and their utilities keep on increasing, however, the full property profiling of hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) is still in its infancy. Therefore, this book elucidates fabrication of HBPs in a one-pot method, without gelation, by optimization of reaction parameters. Moreover, the functionalization of ensuing HBPs and their characterization is described comprehensively. In this regard, a three pronged strategy to HBPs is illustrated, i.e. AB2, A2 + B3 and 2A2 + CBB?, and in each specific approach the shell chemistry of HBPs is utilized to tailor desirable properties. Future prospects and potential applications are also envisaged.
