Cultural Pedagogy and Islamophobia: Towards a Framework for Critical Discussion
Naved M. Bakali
In the post-9/11 context there has been a rapid increase in anti-Muslim sentiment in the West. This work explores the evolution of Islamophobic discourse in popular cultural media from the 1970s until present times. Using the Iranian Revolution as a starting point, Naved Bakali examines the pervasive anti-Muslim rhetoric in cultural pedagogical mediums and suggests a possible framework for educators to move their classrooms beyond a "clash of civilizations" discourse.
