Sugarcane Plantation Weeds Response to Ametryne-atrazine Application: Weed Flora of Sugarcane Plantation and Their Reaction to Ametryne-atrazine

Both mechanical and chemical control is considered as the major weed control methods in sugarcane plantations of the country. When, the mechanical methods are not feasible due to labor shortages or due to weather conditions, herbicide use becomes the main alternative option for management of weeds in sugarcane. Reports indicate that the sugar estates in the country have been practicing weed control, i.e. manual and chemical methods since their establishment. Due to continued use of the herbicide mixture Ametryn + Atrazine numerous weed species are suspected to have developed resistance. Currently, in all the sugar estates, upon long-term usage of the same herb de (Ametryne + Atrazine), the chemical does not control certain weeds.
