Oscillatory Tillage Implement: an Approach Towards Low Hp Tractors

Deep tillage in dry land is a draft intensive operation and on the other hand, draft requirement of multi-powered tools is lower than that of the passive tools of similar capacity. Hence it was proposed to investigate about an Oscillatory Tillage Implement for primary tillage which can be driven by its own eccentric drive in dry land. An Oscillatory Tillage Implement was developed and the tools were arranged in two rows and crank was located at the middle of the two rows of the tillage tools. The connecting rods were used to connect the crank and tillage tools. The crankshaft will be driven by an engine through a set of pulleys and v-belt. The eccentricity of 3 mm was kept at crankshaft to maintain the amplitude of 6mm at tillage tools. The frequency of the tillage tools was kept at 11 Hz. It was observed that MWD of soil aggregates for oscillatory mode was 19.79 mm which was smaller than that of non-oscillatory mode which was 37.20 mm that means smaller clods were formed with oscillatory mode. The soil inversion was better in case of oscillatory mode which is 75.9 percent as compared to non-oscillatory mode which was 63.69 percent.
