Selection criteria Randomised controlled trials (RCTs of any design) with a minimum follow-up period two months, Over 18 year old men and women were recruited with type 2 diabetes mellitus as defined by the world health Organization (Alberti 1998), participants were not controlled on their current oral antidiabetic agents, mean that Hba1c > 7% or a fasting plasma glucose >7 mmol/l.
