Metaphors in German economic discourse
Anna Alexeevna Sheremetjeva
Based on the analysis of metaphorical statements in economic texts, this paper investigates and describes metaphors objectifying the image of the economy and economic realities in the German language. Germans represent, comprehend and evaluate economic events and phenomena in metaphors of personification, mechanism, play (theatre, sport, war), construction, plant, water. Such economic concepts as UNTERNEHMEN, KUNDE, GELD, MARKE, VERHANDLUNGEN, FUSION UND ÜBERNAHME are subject to metaphorical rethinking at the present stage. The book is intended for a wide range of readers: not only philologists dealing with the problems of metaphorization of certain types of discourse, graduate students, teachers, students of language schools, but also students of economic specialties, studying German.
