Development of HEC and its comparison with marketed HEC as a coating

Various polymers like HEC, HPC, and HPMC etc. are used for film coating of the tablets. Film coating is done for various purposes like functionality, stability etc. Different grades of HEC have the variation in viscosity and hydrophilicity due to the change in the molecular weight and presence of ethylene oxide groups. Hence coating with different grades of HEC is likely to produce different release pattern of drug and the desired release of the drug can be achieved by coating with suitable grade of HEC. Ibuprofen is being coated because uncoated Ibuprofen is very hygroscopic and has a bitter soapy taste and may impart irritation or burning in the throat. The objective is to develop different grades of HEC polymer for coating purposes and to observe the release pattern of Ibuprofen from tablets coated with different grades of HEC and finally to compare the release pattern with the marketed HEC for the tablets..
