Where You Are

"Where you are", the new book by Brazilian writer Dulce Rangel, is based on her personal experience of loss. Aimed at children as well as adults, "Where you are" deals with important and essentially human themes, such as mourning and longing. How to come to terms with grief and the passing of a loved one - be it a friend, a parent, a sibling, or a pet? How to face the loneliness that comes after a loved one passes away? Instead of defining the character who left, the book leaves an open door so that each reader can see their own losses be represented in the story. The subtlety shown by the book and its illustrations leads us to a reflection on the child's universe matters, offering the child the possibility of dimensioning their pain in artistic features. Even if a conclusive answer feels out of reach, this work reinforces the importance of making room for the question: - After all, where are you?Dulce Rangel is a Brazilian writer and designer with books published by Moderna, Vozes, Kuarup and Viva e Deixe Viver NGO. After a painful personal experience she understood the importance of creativity in the recovery of children and teenagers undergoing health treatment. Since then, she has written books aimed at encouraging them to live in harmony with their reality. In a light- hearted tone, Dulce intends to improve her young readers' self-esteem and help them find a path to their personal growth through a positive mindset and the pursuing of their dreams. In 2016, after years fighting against a serious disease, her husband passed away. This book is a declaration of love and tribute, not only to him, but to everybody coping with the loss of a loved one. Maria Diva de Souza Tardivo is a Brazilian psychologist and designer. She is an art teacher, illustrator, and works with art therapy. In her broad professional field, she makes use of the language of art as a facilitator in the management of emotional pain. The strokes and colours of the drawings and watercolour in this book were specially chosen to guide the readers through the storyline.
