KALANI is the "heavenly" educational retreat center that was founded in 1975 by Richard Koob with renowned dancer choreographers Earnest Morgan and Trina Nahm-Mijo and Kalapana Community Organization President Kini Pe'a. The initial leap evolved into a thriving community and social enterprise thanks to Special Use Permits from the County of Hawai'i, supportive grants, and the contributions of Richard's parents, siblings, and long-term staff, volunteer-scholars, board members and participating visitors, students and faculty. Kalanihonua harmony of heaven and earth grew to thrive as an immersion in nature, culture, wellness and sustainable living with intent to further a peaceful, flourishing global flora and fauna community.
