[Grade level] 5th grade [Objectives]The objective of Factful Environmental Math Problems is to cultivate our young people's skills to analyze and evaluate fact-based data for understanding our world, while improving their math skills and critical thinking skills. With the rise of the Internet and new technology, building skills to analyze and evaluate fact-based data becomes increasingly important for our young people to prepare for this rapidly changing world. These skills minimize their chances of being brainwashed by false information and making uninformed decisions and ultimately help develop their critical thinking skills. Dr. Hans Roseling, the author of Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World - and Why Things are Better Than You Think (2018), suggested in his book that we tend to systematically misinterpret the state of the world because we view world based on our feelings not facts. To prevent us from having an inaccurate worldview, Dr. Roseling stressed the importance of obtaining basic up-to-date, fact-based numbers and developing skills to analyze and evaluate them. Using the latest data from credible sources, including the United Nations, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U. S. Department of Energy, the U. S. Energy Information Administration, and the World Wildlife Fund, for all problems, Factful Environmental Math Problems provides our young people great opportunities to enhance their skills to analyze and evaluate fact-based data and stimulate their independent thinking. Factful Environmental Math Problems also covers the U. S. national math standards for fifth grade so that our young people can improve their math skills, which is one of the critical tools to interpret numbers and understand our world.
