Resigning her position on the Portland, Oregon, Police Department never enters Brenda Tower's mind until she meets Lin Stone, a county sheriff in southeastern Washington. She throws off her vacation to help the sheriff bring down a vicious killer and they end up in each other's arms. Accepting a detective sergeant position on the Walla Walla Police Department puts her 30 miles from Stone's town of Dayton.
