Here we have compiled all the releases of 2022 that the publications have ranked as the absolute best of the year - chosen based on how often and how high they are featured on the critics' lists + with select overlooked favorites added as well (eg Beach House, Denzel Curry & Black Country, New Road).

A strong year in which some of the greatest pop and hip hop stars of our time returned with brilliant new masterpieces (Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar), where the indie rock scene proved that it has never been better (Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, Big Thief, Alvvays), where the two music icons Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood cemented that they are still masters of their craft even outside Radiohead (The Smile), and where wholly unique artists showed the way forward (Rosalía, Jockstrap).
