Originally I wanted to call this book Prostitution and Gambling in the Animal Kingdom or Selective Listening for Litigation Purposes, but I discovered that Clifford Geertz was working on a study with a similar title to the former and Alan Dershowitz had already implicitly written the latter. Also, I decided that Superficial is not really a book because it's superficial and books should be profound. In this , which isn't a book, there are no chapters, no sections, no paragraphs, no murders, and very few sentences. Thus, by no stretch of my unimpaired imagination is it a book. However, it is many pages assembled as temporally accurate as possible, which convey the thoughts of fourteen of the fifteen guests at Jamie Schliessman's cocktail party.
