Contrary to popular opinion, God is not the "man upstairs." Nor is He harsh or punitive, another common misconception. As our Creator, He has given each of us a way to forgiveness through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus, which was His eternal plan that began before He created the world. God is not just a bigger, better one of us. Yet though He is immeasurable, God is not unknowable, by His own choice. God actually desires a close, personal relationship with those He created, as He wants to share His love with us. God's love, called "agape" in Greek, is different than any love ever experienced - unconditional, sacrificial and all-encompassing. This book is addressed to the beloved of God. "Beloved" is a term of endearment, which only applies to those committed to the Lord. That commitment continues with a closer walk with the Jesus, as we learn to abide with Him, just as He abides in us. And the natural progression of abiding with Him is for us to love others in the way that God loves us.
