While this story is often regarded as Lovecraft's worst story, it was the basis for the movie RE-ANIMATOR, so it can't be all bad. On top of that, this story introduced Miskatonic University, so it has that going for it, too.
Lovecraft wrote the story as a parody of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It's one of the early stories to feature zombies as scientifically reanimated corpses.
So the real question you need to ask yourself is this: If this story is arguably Lovecraft's worst, can you handle it? Well, can ya?
