Miyah and Koala's First Day
Derrick Lee Mitchell
Miyah is excited about going to the third grade. She can't wait to see her best friends, Ashley and Chris. Miyah's father surprises her with a new Pit Bull puppy that he saves from going into an animal shelter. This fictional story about a father's love for his daughter and animals was inspired by actual events. It explores themes of parenting in two households and the rescuing of animals. In the classroom, this book serves as an effective discussion tool. A free Teacher's Guide and book-related activities are available through a link on the web site, www.astapublications.com and www.derrickleemitchell.com.
