Tena Riley
Gifted songstress Tena Riley takes on the classic Frankie Beverly & Maze 1981 track "Joy & Pain" with strong support from the popular Philadelphia-based vocal trio known as TRU and musical backing by the first family of Philly Soul, the immensely talented Ingram Brothers band with added assistance from The Society Hill Orchestra. Riley first came into public view as back-up vocalist for the great Billy Paul and as a member of the female group The Mellow Moods, who left a lasting impact on the early Philly soul scene. A well-respected seasoned veteran, Tena has performed with Smokey Robinson, The O'Jays, Chaka Khan, The Stylistics, Eddie Kendricks and many others. It's astonishing to hear Riley in the lead vocalist role on this track as she breathes new life into the time-honored classic. With a flurry of percussion to kick off the proceedings, her vocal entrance immediately grabs your attention as it lifts the tune into the stratosphere and never let's up until the final note. After all these years, Tena has never sounded better. .
